Things To Do With Kids During The Summer With A Budget!

Things to do with the kids over summer

Incredible Ideas for Kids to Have Fun in Summers

Hey! Summer is here, and it’s a vacation time of your children; probably you might be wondering on ways how to convert this free time into precious memories right! Don’t stress too much. I am here with budget-friendly ideas that will add fun into their summers and will let them explore new life experiences. Some of these activities cost a small fee while others are things you can look into at a low cost. This should help you get the ideas flowing and have a magical summer ahead with the kids! If you have your suggestions to add to the list, make sure to leave them down in the comments. We mamas need to stick together!

Chalk and Art Projects

Fun Things You Can Do at Home

  • Make Chalk Paint: Making chalk paint with your children is fun and simple to do! There is a variety of recipes on Pinterest that seem simple enough, and children love this. You can use all types of rollers, paint brushes, and get creative as you like!
  • Slime Projects: You would be surprised at how many slime recipes there are on the web. We have tried a handful of them and my kids love it! Here are some of our favorites to check out – glow in the dark slime, floam, and butter slime.
  •  Art & Crafting: Kids love to do crafting, and if they are at home, you can join them to construct the activity will not only keeps them busy but boosts creativity in them. Visit any dollar store and grab a collection of supplies to put out for the children. They can build, create, paint, glue, as they, please! There are tons of ideas on my blog of crafts that you can do together. One of the most recent ones for the summer is the Popsicle Craft For Kids. We also love painting rocks together – Spreading Kindness!
  • Watch Motivational animated Movie: There are thousands of movies available that you can make a pick to watch the one that your kid is showing interest. Any fun, an exciting film can be a bonding time for the kids, and you can make a PJ day out of it too! Your local theater may offer cheap summer movies at a low cost, and Redbox is a great option to try also! Redbox offers codes consistently for cheap to free videos. Join their text message list or email list.

Explore Outside For Summer

Places You Can Explore with Them

  • Stopover Local Parks: A picnic with sandwiches and a game of Frisbee may not sound exciting for you but your kids, it’s a huge deal. If you are finding the idea of summer camp super expensive leave it, take advantage of nearby local parks and spend quality time with your kids by playing games Sidewalk Picasso, Scavenger Hunts, Digging for Dinosaurs and can kick a soccer ball too.
  •  A Visit to a Public Beach: Entry in the beach area is not too expensive it wallows with a little fee. Pack your lunch, water and enough of snacks so that you can have full day fun in the water for low spending. I think it is the most viable option to enjoy hot summers. If you don’t have beaches nearby look into splash pads and community pool options!
  • Explore the Night Sky: Stargazing party! Yes, who says summer is perfect to have fun only when the sun is right up there; if you prefer to be in the air conditioner during the day time its ok! You can take advantages of cooler nights. A blanket, a telescope, and a star chart are enough to see a loveable smile on your child’s face. Take some snacks and start the party. You have to spend a little amount to buy a telescope which would not be an issue for sure.
  • Go Though the Websites for Specials: Children’s museums, local aquariums, and Zoos offer specials for summers. These places around you might be offering admission discounts and special offers on more than one visit and even during the week when crowds are slower.  If you frequently choose to visit a location, check it out for memberships. These might be worth the cost.
  • POGO Passes are a great way to do things during the summer at a fantastic cost. They are offered all over the US. – $49.98 per person gets you the ability to visit 24 different places around the Phoenix area. Our pogo passes offer Urban Jungle, Sunsplash, KTR, Fat Cats, and more! I would look into this option. I love the variety of places they provide for the kids to get out of the house during the summer time.

Summer time Fun

There are tons of other activities you can do to keep the kids busy during the summer. Here in the Phoenix area, we struggle with the heat and not wanting to go out in 120-degree weather unless we are getting into the pool. There are other options like summer camps, boys & girls club summer programs, sports, dance classes, etc. if that is something your child may be interested in trying out. Take some time to look around and explore your options along with your budget for summer fun. Just remember you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make things fun with the kids!

8 Simple Ways To Help Moms Stay More Organized!

Do you ever feel like a hot mess mom that seems not to be able to find things to help her stay organized or lighten the household workload for yourself? Well, hopefully, some of these super simple suggestions using some programs and apps can make life a little easier on yourself.  We all are so different in how we do things in our home and how each of us works. I can’t live without being organized, and I feel like my daycare business wouldn’t work any other way. I use calendars, lots of post-it notes ALWAYS, but I do use a couple of programs that I wanted to share with you all. Recently  I put a poll on my Facebook page asking if anyone would like tips and tricks that work for me – everyone answered YES! Here we are and ready to share with you a few things that help me along the way. I hope they help you too!

Amazon Echo Show or Dot

I love my echo show, and thankful my mom got it for me for Christmas one year!  Amazon makes multiple devices that can take down notes or lists of things I need when I am in a bind is fantastic! I can yell “Alexia Add Milk To My Shopping List,” and when Friday comes around, I can pull up the list on the show or my phone and add it to my order. My boys know if we run out of something to add it to the list which is easy peasy! My Echo show is such a lifesaver in my house right now. Honestly, you can get an amazon echo dot that does the same thing for even less money. It also will play stories, songs ( we listen to the toddler station A LOT! )  and lots of other skills you can add. I know I have it also set up for the drive into work for Travis, so he asks it what his trip looks like – and it will respond to let him know how it is traffic-wise as an example of its awesomeness! If you invest in one, you will not be disappointed!

Instacart Shopping Services

Oh my gosh. I love this option for grocery shopping – it’s the best!  On Thursday evenings, I get on my phone and start making my grocery list for the week. I pull up my amazon list on my phone ( talked about above ) and then the Frys app – start planning meals! I add everything to my cart, so it is ready to go. I then wait until the next morning to schedule the delivery, but everything will stay in my cart overnight. The app works for us because we get paid on Fridays, so I wait till the next day to put the order through.  If I use the Frys app to schedule the groceries, then my Frys card does get scanned and its a $9.95 delivery fee, which means I still get all the regular deals and coupons. The groceries being delivered is worth it to me! We buy at minimum $200 a week worth of groceries and saves me time. Which means I don’t have to spend my weekend grocery shopping! They then shop for me, delivery it to the house at the end of my day around 5-6pm. It is the best thing ever! It also helps me budget if need be and not grab random things to throw it in my cart. They also offer to pick up, which is just as great for $4.95. Walmart is another example that you can use if need be. Instacart provides all sorts of stores, so check within your city to see where they will shop!

Download the app to your phone too!

Amazon Subscribe & Save Program

The next thing I use and love dearly is the Amazon Subscribe & Save Program. I am an amazon prime member, so I took advantage of the program on the big ticket items we need monthly or every couple of months. Such things like dog food, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, batteries, and paper plates. If you have 5 or more items you receive monthly you can get 15% off. This adds up big time and ships free to your door. It’s so easy, and I love that I get dog food without the hassle of remembering or carrying a huge bag to the car! Amazon sends you a monthly email where you can pick if you need to skip an item for a month or customize it some. They do let you know ahead of time before it charges to the card so you are prepared and can go over the things you need quickly before they ship. If you do have Amazon prime look into this and see if it can save you some money or hassle on stuff you need anyway!

Freshly Delivered Meals

I have been talking about this one on my Instagram the past week or so! They are homemade fresh meals delivered to your door on Wednesdays. I needed help with meal prep as my free time is limited watching kiddos for about 12 hours daily. These meals you pick on the app, and they come straight to your door to eat. If you can’t eat them right away, you may freeze them for later on! I order the six-pack and heat them at lunch for me to eat instead of me trying to meal prep on the weekends. It is a huge lifesaver for me, and they taste delicious! One goal for me this year was to eat clean, and this helps me stay on track with my own goals.

PS. If you want to try these at all, send me a message through Facebook, or the contact page on the blog, or Instagram. I can give you a code to try them for $40 for the first two weeks! I recommend trying the system out. You can cancel whenever you like & even skip weeks if need be. Feel free to look at the Freshly app to see if it might be something you would like to try!

Digit Saving App

This one is huge for me, and I know it doesn’t work for everyone. Right now we are using this app called Digit. You link the app to your bank account, and it acts as a savings robot.  It helps you save money by taking out small amounts from your account and putting it into a savings account. You can customize the app to fit your needs meaning to tell the app to take out small amounts or limit it to not take out for weeks at a time, or even if your account hits a certain low… it will stop. That is the cool part! It has no specific time or schedules it takes money out but learns your spending habits with time.

I have it set up on two accounts, and we are right now saving up to go to Disneyland here at Christmas time. We needed about $4,000 for us to all go for three days, so we have been using the app to help us get there. I put the link above if you click the Digit title if you want more details. I do realize people have their own savings account and can have money taken out each paycheck, but this seems to work better for us for the moment. Once you have enough saved up, you are able to move money to your bank account!

Here is the digit code you can use and get 5 bucks credit to your account for starting!

Meal Menu Planning

Let’s talk about meal planning for dinners for the family. It is such a simple thing, but I thought I would throw it on there for you all. I have a menu planner that I have on the fridge with a dry erase marker, and I plan out meals for the week. I know I told you before, but we both work LONG hours and don’t have time to stop by the store in the middle of the week. So we make sure when we get groceries, it is to last the entire week including daycare meals and snacks. Granted there are weeks we run out of milk or whatever and have to make a quick stop at Walgreens. Tons of different ideas for this, check out the links below! These are a few of my favorite. I have to say this works amazingly well in my house and everyone knows what to expect for dinner!

Ibotta App

This app is fantastic to save money on the groceries you buy already! You download the app, connect your shopping card to whatever store you shop, and pick the items you purchased. Then in 24 hours, you will see the cash in your account. If you do not use this, I highly suggest starting! You get money for things you already buy! I am telling you – its amazing!

For example, I just cashed in my 50 bucks from buying groceries for gift cards for my dad for Father’s Day. It’s seriously so simple and easy to use! I try to get in the routine to go into the app after groceries are delivered. You use to have to submit a receipt but not anymore – it’s linked to your shopper card, which saves you so much time! Here is my code if you would like to try it.

If you use my code, you will get $5 in your account for free to start. = YZBAZY

Butcher Box

Monthly I order my meat from Butcher Box as they have high-quality meat at a significant low cost. I bought my meat at the regular grocery store but I can tell the difference, and I know grass-fed beef and organic chicken is way better for you! I ended up trying a box a while back, and it came out to the same amount I was spending for us to buy meat at the grocery store. Now, this is something new we have been doing because one of my goals this year is to eat clean. I realize this isn’t something everyone can do or wants to do, but I wanted to put it on here just in case. You can always customize your box to fit your needs, and it ships directly to your door. You don’t even have to order every single month too. So many customizing options that I enjoy!

Here is the code if you would like to try it out too! The first box when signing up I got a free 2lbs of salmon. I know they have different promotions from time to time.

Butcher Box Link =

Hopefully, these suggestions will help some of you with staying a little bit more organized. I am a fairly organized person, and it’s just in me to keep things nice, organized, and events running smoothly. I realize it isn’t for everyone, and that makes us all unique. Even if one of the apps or programs help your household – I will be extremely grateful! I would also love to hear from YOU on things that work for household – leave them in the comment section!

Potato Easter Egg Stamping Craft!

Easter is one of the most exciting holidays to a child and From the Easter bunny to decorating eggs and all the egg hunts – why wouldn’t a child love it? The weather is fantastic, the pastel colors everywhere and the kids so excited for the Easter bunny to make his debut. What could be better than that? How about some great Easter desserts and crafts? YES! The kids love making crafts to take home to put up as decorations around the house as it gets closer and closer to Easter.

We love doing potato stamping every single year. It is relatively simple to do and takes a little bit of time for set up of course. You only need about two potatoes cut in half and four colors of paint – any colors you choose! In our project below we used orange, yellow, pink and purple which worked out well. You can make the design however you decide on the potatoes. I went with dots, a zig-zag option, and stripes. It wasn’t too difficult to get the pattern on them with a standard knife.

White Card Stock Paper

Just wash vegetables before using them and let dry.

Cut potatoes in half and design a pattern with your knife on each side.

You can even leave them plain with no design.

Put some paint into the bowls with a potato – like in the picture above.

Stamp the vegetables on the paper and let dry!

Easter is such an exciting time to do crafts and projects with the kids. So many different ideas out there from bunnies to chicks and everything in between. I know I love to let my creativity shine through as holidays pop up throughout the year! This potato stamping craft is relatively easy to set up, and children of all ages can participate. Happy Easter from my family to yours!

Easter Egg M&M Cookies

Can you believe that it is Easter time already? It feels like 2019 just started in my eyes. I can’t believe we are now discussing Easter plans and the summer is coming up quickly. With the Easter season approaching, I decided to whip together some delicious Easter Egg M&M cookies for the family and wanted to share the recipe with all my readers! If you haven’t tried cookies with cornstarch included in the ingredients, you definitely want to attempt some one day. They will change your life, and it makes a world of difference.

These cookies call for the “Easter Egg” speckled bag of M&M’s they sell at most convenient stores or grocery stores in the Easter section. You can use regular ones or even the pastels to make them, but I loved the look and taste of the egg ones instead. I want to give you a fair warning about this dough, you will need to refrigerate it for a good two hours before baking, and I know that can sort of be a pain at times. Trust me when I say it is worth it in the end because they are the softest and most delicious cookies I have ever tasted.

Easter Egg M&M Cookie Recipe

Deliciously soft cookies with an Easter touch.
Servings: 24 cookies
Author: Dezarae Kennady

  • 3/4 cup Stick butter softened
  • 3/4 cup Light Brown Sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 egg Large
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 tsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 bag M&M Easter Egg Speckled

  • Combine butter, sugars, egg, vanilla, and beat on medium-high until well creamed.
  • After the sugars are a creamy consistency add in the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and mix until combined with a spoon.
  • Add in M&M's and fold them in carefully with the mixture until it seems like they are spread out evenly throughout the batter.
  • Create 2 inch balls with the batter and place on a large plate. You will need to flatten them down slightly. Cover the plate with plastic wrap and put in the fridge for a total of 2 hours at the minimum. If you don't want to bake them right away you can store them in a container for up to 5 days in the fridge. Do NOT bake with warm dough.
  • Preheat oven to 350F, line the cookie sheet with silicone mats, parchment paper or cooking spray. Place the pre-made balls on the cookie sheet with at least 2 inches apart. Bake for 10 minutes - they may look uncooked but they will firm up as you let them cool. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing them to a cookie rack.
  • Once cookies have cooled completely store them in an airtight container at room temperature for one week.

If you currently do not own the silicone baking mats – I highly recommend getting a set because honestly, they are amazing, easy to clean, and I feel like my cookies come out SO much better. They are fairly inexpensive so that part is fantastic! I am going to put a couple of links below so you can check them out if you do decide to get a few. If you get a chance to make these cookies, leave a comment below to let me know how they turned out and if you love them just as much as me!

St Patrick’s Day Kids Hand Print Four Leaf Clover Craft

With St Patrick’s Day right around the corner – what better way than making a cute craft with the kids to hang up as decorations?! This craft only takes a few supplies – paint, paper, and a paintbrush. It can be dressed up to be put on canvas so you can hang it in the house for years to come or on white card stock to hang up on the fridge. We opted to go with the card stock this time around but can’t wait to make them next year on canvas for each of the parents. Such an excellent idea for just about anyone!

This St Patrick’s Day I am doing a little themed party with green snacks/lunch, a coin hunt, and cute small craft for all the kids here during the day. Holidays are something that I look forward to every year and love decorating for March. I love that Pinterest offers so many different types of projects and activities to do with the children. Everything from sorting, learning, counting, and coloring to simple games like bingo! I can’t wait to spend the week experimenting with the kids so I can share some new ideas with you all. I have some cool treats and crafts coming your way!

Let’s get started on this handprint clover craft to do with all your little’s at home!

Supplies: green paint, paint brush, and canvas and/or white card stock paper

~ Simply paint the child’s hand with the green paint. Stamp toward the top two corners with it slightly open. After two stamps make sure to re-paint the child’s hand for the last two stamps.
~ After all four corners have been stamped correctly take a paintbrush to make the stem of the clover. If the child is old enough to do it themselves – even more awesome!
~ Let the paint completely dry before hanging up on the fridge or wall.

Keep an eye out for even more St Patrick’s Day goodies to be posted on the blog. Hopefully, these cute ideas get you in the holiday spirit. Be sure to pin the craft for later too!

Ideas For Throwing A Fortnite Birthday Party!

I really wanted to write a blog post about throwing a Fortnite themed birthday party this year. I searched everywhere for ideas and inspiration – yes even Pinterest without any luck! It seems like they do not make much party wise which I am quite honestly surprised. These companies could make some big bucks right now on all things Fortnite, but I rarely see items being sold. So of course, I wanted to share with you all what I decided to do for my sons 10th birthday and hopefully give you some excellent ideas that you could use as well. I most certainly didn’t go all out like most people did but looked adorable and festive for him to enjoy.

So for starters, I used pretty basic decorations on the tables and streamers around the space. Most everything I got online at Oriental Trading Company. I seriously use them for almost all my parties. They have so much to offer and at a great price. For the centerpieces on the main table, gift table and my bar top – I put together a “Supply Drop.” I bought an 8 pack of the navy blue gift bags and attached the supply drop icon that I made below. I attached it for anyone that might want to use it and just print it off. I cut it out and taped it nicely on the bag so you couldn’t see the tape. The yellow balloons we had filled up and tied onto the top of the gift bag. That was a relatively simple task and fit the theme perfectly!

For this birthday party, we had a sleepover of about 9 boys in total. I decided to make little chests for each child with small snacks for the night. In the game Fortnite, you find these chests and open them to get supplies for the game. You could totally have things in the chest that have to do with the game such as bandaids, slurp juice, etc. I just went with small snacks, and little candy treats with the child’s name on them. These were easy to put together and fill up before the party. They looked nice on the counter as decorations and the boys really loved the idea!

My favorite item for the party was the drinks! I found someone on Etsy to make labels that I could print off that had the words ” slurp juice” and “chug jug” on them to go over mini blue Gatorade. Super simple project but looked incredible when finished. I also purchased a blowup treasure chest on the site for the Gatorade & water to go in. Blowing it up was a little more time consuming than I would prefer, but after it was complete it went with the decor perfectly! It also held the ice and lots of drinks for the evening with a mess or hassle for the kids. You could put a lot in this cooler which makes it even more awesome!

The plates and napkins for dinner I got on a different site than Oriental Trading company. I will link below to the site – and those were the only tableware I could find for the theme Fortnite. We ended up doing hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner, a bounce house for the entire evening at a fantastic rate and Bahama Bucks for the treat! The sleepover was a big hit, and the kids were entertained and super behaved. I couldn’t ask for anything better. If you throw a Fortnite themed party let us know in the comments and ideas, you can suggest for others. I would love to hear from you. I hope this helps some mamas out there searching and feel free to pin for later too.

Links below are to all the items I purchased to throw the party! There is so much to choose from by this company! I paid about $50 bucks total plus free shipping! Just click the picture and it will take you to exact site for the item. Its awesome!

Plates can be purchased here –Fortnite Plates, Napkins, and Cups

This company also offers a pinata that matches the theme. We didnt do anything like this but for $30 it is really cute and matches perfectly!

Super Easy Valentine’s Day Bark

Valentine's Day Bark

Delicious yet fun dessert for the upcoming holiday!

  • 1/2 bag Pretzels Any type
  • 1/2 bag Dark Chocolate Melted
  • 1/2 bag Vanilla Chocolate Melted
  • 1 container Sprinkles Any variety

  • Prepare a metal pan by covering with wax paper.
  • Take pretzels and scatter all over the pan.
  • Use melted chocolate to drizzle all over the pretzels.
  • Before chocolate melts, scatter sprinkles all over the chocolate.
  • Leave the pan out on the counter to dry for about 20 minutes.
  • Once the chocolate is completely hardened break into peices and store in an airtight container until use.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate than making some delicious treats?! Am I right? Who doesn’t love chocolate anyways! This recipe for bark is super simple to make yet so cute and fun. I love that it is so quick to throw together without a ton of different ingredients too. If I am being sincere, I used the leftover chocolate from the chocolate covered strawberries to put the recipe together! The kids devoured it quickly along with the chocolate covered strawberries this week – SCORE!

This recipe calls for just the perfect amount of sweet and salty, so much that you will love every single bite. Definitely useful for holiday parties at school, work or just for the fun of it. You can do just about anything with this recipe depending on the holiday. I may even attempt to make some for St Patricks Day. Its positively good no matter the season. Let’s get started and feel free to pin it for later. I sure do appreciate all the pins & shares!

Melted chocolate – any type

Pretzels – any brand

Sprinkles – variety

Line pan with wax paper & spread pretzels out on the pan.

Use melted chocolate to drizzle over the pretzels – I used both white and dark chocolate.

Before the chocolate dries make sure to put on sprinkles.

Let chocolate dry completely before breaking into pieces and putting in an airtight container.
